Walking and Cycling in Colchester
Whether you're taking on an extreme cross-country journey or are simply looking to reconnect with nature, there are plenty of wonderful places to walk and cycle in Colchester. From short scenic walking paths in Castle Park to international cycling routes to Harwich, you'll be hard-pressed to travel the same route twice.
You can also discover Colchester’s History with one of our fantastic Guided Walking Trail with one of our talented and knowledgable city guides. Alternatively, to take things at your own pace, you can take a self-guided route; our top recommendation is the Hidden Colchester Trail which can be purchased from the Visitor Information Centre at Hollytrees Museum for £2.50 – it’s a perfect introduction to the city and all it’s history. However, other options are available including guides to the Roman Walls, the Siege of Colchester, Colchester’s Concrete Murals, or a Blue Plaque trail.
If you have any issues with your bike along the way, fear not! Colchester's local bike shops and facilities, such as the Bike Kitchen, offer everything from drop in sessions and repairs, to outdoor recommendations. If you need to stop to recharge at one of our cafes or restaurants, you can also store your bike at the Secure Bike Park.
While you're in the City Centre, be sure to visit our friendly team at the Visitor Information Centre - the team will be able to guide you through a selection of maps available to purchase, and also help you to find a great lunch spot to break up the journey!
