A newly opened art gallery located in the heart of the culturally vibrant town of Wivenhoe. The Sentinel is the mass project of local potter Pru Green. Many will have visited her exhibitions in her Park Road property, which featured the work of local artists and was held in her own living room. The dream grew larger so Pru launched herself into creating a contemporary building to host local contemporary artists accessible to the public. Four years spent fighting for planning permission but thankfully persisting with her dream meant the striking modernist building was born and the gallery opened in March 2015, housing a living space, pottery workshop and public gallery.
The Sentinel Gallery hosts monthly exhibitions of paintings, prints, sculpture and drawings by upcoming artists. Alongside the permanent exhibition space is a ceramic room holding a vast array of Pru's pottery and jewellery.
Together with a rapid changing exhibition program we also put on various workshops of lifedrawing, painting and the occasional clay-play. We hope to extend this with music evenings, poetry sessions and artist talks. To stay tuned on whats on please visit www.thesentinelgallery.co.uk or follow us on facebook, twitter and instagram.
