A lime and glass of gin, from above.

Summer is officially here and ‘oh’ it also happens to be World Gin Day! What better way to cool off than with a tall refreshing G&T or a fun cocktail!

Where can you find the best gin in Colchester I hear you ask? Here are just a few of our favourite  places in the town centre to head for a glass or two of Mother’s ruin…

The Church Street Tavern

For those that take their gin very seriously, check out the Church St Tavern's extensive selection - there’s an entire page on their drinks menu dedicated to gin alone. They have a large variety of the best quality spirits and the knowledgeable staff really know their way around a cocktail shaker.

The cute & quirky Made & Found Café open up ‘Boo’s Bar’ most evenings and weekends serving a range of delicious Colchester themed cocktails – including the COOLchester – a refreshing take on the classic G&T with locally made gin and a slosh of watermelon tonic.

The Three Wise Monkeys love gin so much, it has it’s own dedicated bar in their basement - In fact they are holding a Bottomless Gin Brunch there to celebrate World Gin Day! Don’t worry if you missed out – their well-stocked bar is open 7 days a week – make sure to book a table in advance.

Greyfriars Hotel

Head to the Baroque Bar at GreyFriars hotel for a taste of opulence. They have speciality cocktails of their own creation on the menu, including the intriguing sounding GreyFriars Mule, their spicy version of an old classic which uses Ophir gin and fresh chillis.

If you’re looking to buy a bottle of locally produced gin, pop in to Two Brews on Crouch Street. Sellers of fine craft beer and coffee, they also stock an interesting array of spirits, and often have Oystermen Gin, Jumbo Gin & Essex Citrus Dry Gin for sale.

If you happen to spot a bottle of Wilkin & Sons Gin Liqueur, Coggeshall Spirit or Tide’s Fortune these are also pretty local to us too.

Are there any other locally made gins we should add to the list? Or places we need to go and look at the cocktail menu? We’d love to hear your recommendations in the comments below… & CHEERS!
