Lepra is an international health charity based in Colchester. Founded in 1924, it specialises in research, detection, treatment and support of communities affected by leprosy and lymphatic filariasis.
To mark #WorldLeprosyDay, on Sunday 29 Jan, Lepra will be hosting the 'New Faces of Leprosy' exhibition for the first time at Colchester Castle!
The castle will be beautifully lit in Lepra's distinctive colours in support of our 2023 World Leprosy Day campaign #ShineALightOnLeprosy which aims to raise awareness of this ancient, yet forgotten disease.
Documentary photographer Tom Bradley's inspirational images tell the stories of people affected by leprosy. We share their journey through diagnosis to treatment, facing discrimination and prejudice, and how they overcome the challenges they face.
Entry to Colchester Castle will be FREE for this event (when booked online) and will include two guided tours at 4pm and 5pm*. Tea and cake will also be served throughout the event, from 2pm.
We look forward to you dropping in to hear more about our work, leprosy and the prevalence it still has today.
This awareness-raising event is completely free and open to all!
