The soldiers of the British Army’s global response force mark Armed Forces Day with a free show on Colchester's Abbey Field
On Saturday June 25th the event promises to showcase the skills and equipment of the town’s 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team as it builds to a dmatic climax of a combat demonstration.
Highlights across the day include displays by The Parachute Regiment’s Red Devils freefall team, music from British Army Band Colchester, and a marchpast by veterans and cadets from across Essex. Key pieces of modern equipment on display will include an RAF Puma helicopter, artillery, and a field hospital able to be deployed by parachute. An insight into the garrison’s history will be given by living historians showing the kit and weaponry of First and Second World War soldiers and Merville Barracks’ Dakota transport aircraft will be open for visitors.
The event is the fifth staging of the show - which is organised by Colchester Garrison every other year – and features refreshments, bouncy castles, and free parking, although we would encourage visitors to walk, cycle or use public transport where possible.
