Debut author Jackie Carreira will be at the store to chat to customers about her novel Sleeping Through War & to sign copies for anyone who buys one. It is the story of three women living through a pivotal moment in history. In May 1968 change & even Revolution were in the air & America was embroiled in the Vietnam War. Jackie's tells the story of Rose, a West Indian nurse,struggling to survive in the East End of London, Amelia & her son are trying to escape the seedy side of life in Lisbon, while Mrs Johnson, living in Washington DC, writes to her son serving in Vietnam. Although she is writing fiction, Jackie has used elements of the history of that time which have been forgotten. She grew up in London & Lisbon in the Sixties & has drawn on her memories of that time to write the novel.
