A commemoration service arranged by Colchester Borough Council, The Royal British Legion and Colchester Garrison to mark the 75th anniversary of Operation Market Garden, the Battle of Arnhem, including prayers, readings, wreath/flower laying, two minutes silence, and a bugler playing the Last Post and Reveille.

Members of the public are requested to gather at the War Memorial, High Street, Colchester by 10.50 am.

The service will start at 11.00 am after the arrival of the Civic Procession.

The service is expected to finish by 11.25 am.

Personal wreaths and flowers can be laid.

While the Colchester service is taking place, a similar service is being held at the Oosterbeek War Graves Cemetery, in the Municipality of Renkum, the Netherlands. Soldiers from the town’s 16 Air Assault Brigade will be at this service and the Mayor of Colchester will be representing the Borough.

Both services remember all those killed or wounded during the Liberation of Europe, and those members of the United Kingdom’s and Allied Airborne Forces who took part in Operation Market Garden, and the common bond that exists between Colchester and Renkum because of the events that took place in September 1944, and the present day basing of Airborne Forces in Colchester.

The Colchester Film Makers Club will be filming at the service for the Town records.
