Gun Battery firing

Colchester has been granted the prestigious honour of being chosen by Her Majesty the Queen as one of the country’s Royal Saluting Stations, the only station in East Anglia. This honour allows artillery based in the town to fire a 21-gun salute to mark official Royal occasions such as The Queen’s Official Birthday.

The Twelfth Colchester Royal Salute will be the occasion of The Queen’s Official Birthday, on the 9th June 2018. On this day a battery of six guns from the 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, will fire the 21-gun salute at 12 noon from Lower Castle Park. The Battery is part of 16 Air Assault Brigade, based in the town at Merville Barracks. The guns are the 105 mm light guns, used by the unit on operations.

The Band of The Parachute Regiment will provide the programme of music and display from 1115 hrs.
