SPRING STEAM GALA

SPRING STEAM GALA

Details

Two full days of intensive steam engine action…

Showcasing our home fleet of steam locomotives PLUS a special guest GWR 5526 2-6-2T Small Prairie, visiting from the South Devon Railway, all running to an intensive timetable. There hasn’t been a Small Prairie in East Anglia for a long time and this loco is only with us for a limited time so don’t miss out on getting up really close to our special guest.

See how your parents and grandparents travelled by rail in 1950s British Railways coaches and travel back in time in our historic 19th century coaches. As well as riding the trains, explore the Victorian station buildings, learn about and operate the Signal Box and visit the Restoration Shed for a ‘behind the scenes’ look at our restoration programme.

We’ll be running freight train and shunting demonstrations and you can see the action of ‘double and triple heading’, where we couple steam locomotives together and run them down the line as one train. For Saturday only, we will run an extended timetable taking us into the hours of darkness with GWR 5526 and food will be available.

Although the museum is virtually fully accessible, due to us being at a functioning railway station, visitors using wheel chairs will need the assistance of a carer to navigate the separate accessible entrance and security gate on the opposite side of the rail track.
