Colchester Chamber Choir - The Romantic Soul

Step into the salons of the European belle époque on Saturday 18th May and Colchester Chamber Choir will entertain you with a concert of exuberant and atmospheric part-songs.
The evening features three major works by Fauré, including the famous Pavane along with three Italian soirée pieces from Rossini’s later years in Paris, which capture in miniature the world of his opera. The programme will also include some beautiful rarities; three short choral works by Clara Schumann and four works by the Swedish composer Wilhelm Stenhammar, including his beautiful Vårnatt (Spring Night). The evening ends with Hugo Wolf’s exquisite Die Stimme des Kindes (the Voice of the Child) and Berlioz’s manic and eccentric Le Ballet des Ombres (Ballet of the Shades).
The choir will be joined by the acclaimed pianist John Paul Ekins ( who will also play one of Fauré’s Nocturnes and Rossini’s Saltarello à l’italienne from his album for adolescents.
