Eduardo Niebla

Details

Hailed by the Guardian for his “exquisite guitar playing”, Eduardo Niebla is a formidable flamenco jazz guitar virtuoso and master of today’s generation. Continually seeking out new musical terrain he has traversed the worlds of jazz, classical, world and pop music, collaborating with such diverse partners as George Michael, Craig David, sitar maestro Nishat Khan, Lol Coxhill (sax) and the Dante String Quartet. His concert appearances include the Queen Elizabeth Hall London, St. David’s Hall Cardiff, Celtic Connections Glasgow, the Brecon Jazz Festival and Glastonbury, as well as international festivals around the world. Tonight he presents an amazing repertoire of “stunning flamenco jazz” (The Sound) from his latest albums with guitarist Matthew Robinson & tabla player Dharmesh Parmar:

"An imaginative and stimulating instrumental set in which flamenco is infused with classical Indian music and a contemporary jazz edge... top-class playing and beautiful themes... wonderful tracks which completely enfold the listener." SONGLINES

"A stunning collection of originals showing what Jelly Roll Morton called the Spanish 'tinge' is still a potent force." JAZZ UK

“Poignantly poetic... and truly breathtaking” SCOTSMAN

“And Eduardo - virtuoso? Inventive improviser? Yes and yes. And creative composer too. Writer of beautiful melodies, great grooves, charming and self-effacing. He cast a deep, engrossing spell over the audience which transported them to other places, to the distant past, to India, Arabia, North Africa, Spain - tracing the link between modern Flamenco and the ancient music of India. And then on to the New World, to South and Central America for the rumba. At the end of the concert he thanked the audience for having been present while the band "searched for these deep places in the music". Believe me, they found them. (London Jazz News)
