Details

Have you ever wondered what it really takes to be an astronaut and what it's like to go into space? Well now's your chance with former NASA astronaut Tony Antonelli.

Tony has served as a Commander of the US Navy as well as being a Distinguished Graduate of the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School. As a pilot, he has accumulated over 3,200 hours in 41 different kinds of aircraft.

He was selected as a NASA pilot in 2000 and flew his first mission in space as the pilot of STS-119 aboard Space Shuttle Discovery in March 2009. He also served as pilot on STS-132 Atlantis (May 2010).

Tony has logged a total of 24 days, 3 hours, 57 minutes and 35 seconds in space. He is the recipient of the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal and various service awards.

About Pint of Science:

Pint of Science is a non-profit organisation that brings some of the most brilliant scientists to your local pub to discuss their latest research and findings with you. You don't need any prior knowledge, and this is your chance to meet the people responsible for the future of science (and have a pint with them). Our festival runs over a few days in May every year, but we occasionally run events during other months.

Our vision is of a world in which anybody who wants to learn more about science has the confidence and the means to do so. We believe that background and personal circumstances shouldn’t determine a person’s potential to engage with research, and we want science to be at the heart of society, a topic for pub conversation. We think that building a culture of curiosity and encouraging people to ask questions is vital if we’re to find solutions for some of humanity’s biggest problems.
