About

THE PIER AT HARWICH

With Harwich being so easily accessible by road, train and boat; The Pier is perfectly situated on the quay in the heart of the old town. The brasserie is located on the first floor, and is open from 12 noon every day until 9.30 pm and there’s no need to book which is very useful if you are arriving by water. The menu celebrates modern classics and wonderful fresh fish and shellfish landed on The Pier’s doorstep. With estuary views from every table, The Pier, only a stone’s throw from the confluence of the Stour and Orwell estuaries is a very special destination for lovers of great food and drink.

The harbour wall is only 20 metres from the door and The Pier’s first floor balcony overlooks the water, ships and working docks at Felixstowe and when the sun is shining and the wind in the right quarter there can be no better place to enjoy lunch or dinner.

The NAVYÄRD Bar on the ground floor is adjacent to the working harbour, the ideal place for fun and relaxation and is fast becoming famous for the Gin Library of over 150 gins (and growing). The NAVYÄRD is open every day for coffee, breakfast and smörgåsbord open sandwiches.

The Pier also has 14 delightful en-suite bedrooms, some of which have the fabulous views over the harbour. The jewel in the crown is definitely the Mayflower room which comes complete with a telescope to capture the ever changing views across the water.

2020 was set to be a special year for the town as Harwich celebrated one of its most famous sons, Captain Christopher Jones.  Jones was the master of the Mayflower, the ship that sailed with the pilgrims to the new world in 1620.  Due to the current situation, these celebrations have been postponed to 2021.

The Pier is just a short 10 minutes from Felixstowe and Shotley on the Harwich Harbour Ferry.  The service operates daily from March to October and then weekends (weather permitting). Private evening charters are also available during the summer. The Ferry also operates another boat which offers a 90 minute sailing trip to see seals on the Walton Backwaters, booking is essential for this.

And we mustn’t forget the Electric Palace just around the corner, which is one of the oldest working cinemas in the UK and well worth a visit, take a look at their website to find out the weekly programme.
