It's the end of October & that means Halloween is on the horizon, with Fireworks night following up closely behind. Here are our top picks for things to do this spooky season in Colchester:
Guided Tour for Families: Rowdy Romans, Naughty Normans & Victorious Victorians
Visit Colchester will be running our annual popular Halloween event, a family-friendly tour of Colchester's gruesome history with our qualified town guide Claire, in character as "Aggie, the Jailer's Wife". Join her on an entertaining walk through Colchester's colourful history on Friday 28th October at 2pm; with the gory and revolting bits left in! The tour is designed especially for children, but adults are sure to have great time too - book in advance with our friendly Visitor Information Centre team in person, or over the phone on 01206 282920.
The Zoo's popular Shriek Week returns this October, with 10 days of spectactular halloween themed activities on offer. Suitable for children of all ages, there is a Face Painting Station and Craft Coven. The range of FANG-TASTIC activities will keep the family entertained all day long, in addition to your regular Zoo visit.
The team are also putting on a spooky experience for grown ups on selected evenings though October called the 'Trail of Terror'.

Wicked Spirits at Colchester Castle
Colchester Castle's latest exhibition is produced in partnership with the Museum of Witchcraft & Magic and sensitively brings to life the stories of those that suffered in one of the Castle's darkest periods, when is was used as a prison for those suspected of being a witch.
Entry to the exhibition is included in your general admission ticket to Colchester Castle, and they also have a multitude of seasonal activities on offer for kids and families throughout half term.
The Pumpkin Patch at Foxes Farm Produce
Pick Your Own Pumpkins at Foxes Farm, just in time for Halloween. Fun for all the family, and a very very cute photo oppotunity for the little ones!
Foxes Farm Produce have been growing and harvesting pumpkins for over 10 years and open their Pumpkin Patch in Aldham every year so you can pick your own, just 5 miles west of Colchester City Centre.
The spectacular annual fireworks display in Colchester's Castle Park returns in 2022, taking place on Guy Fawkes night itself - Saturday 5th November.
Alongside the impressive fireworks display there will be entertainment, and the parading of the guy. A perfect family evening out! (A very popular event - make sure to buy your tickets in advance online!)
Smaller fireworks events will be taking place in the towns and villages surrounding Colchester, so in the event that Castle Park's event sells out, check out our web listings for other local displays as an alternative.
