The Munnings Collection at Castle House

The Munnings Collection at Castle House

In 2017 The Munnings Art Museum reveals another side to one of Britain’s finest equestrian painters with a new exhibition: Munnings and the River. The exhibition will explore Sir Alfred Munnings’ artistic and literary responses to a subject with which he had a great affinity and which remained a constant motif throughout his life’s work.

Drawn from the museum’s significant collection of paintings by this prolific East Anglian painter and former President of the Royal Academy, almost fifty oil and watercolour paintings, including views of the beautiful Dedham Vale and River Stour, are presented as well as sketches, photographs and personal ephemera belonging to the artist.

Admission to the museum in 2017 includes entry to the new exhibition and access to a further 150 art works, hung chronologically throughout the rooms of Castle House - the ‘house of his dreams’ – charting the rise of this son of a Suffolk miller to multimillion-pound selling artist.

Our knowledgeable guides are on hand during public opening hours, while groups can also book an exclusive out-of-hours visit.

A programme of events and workshops takes place throughout the year.
