A Right Royal Celebration
09/11/2011
The Council's Visitor Services Team invited the children to produce the cards for His Royal Highness Prince William and Catherine Middleton, on their wedding on 29th April 2011. There were 86 colourful creations by the children, featuring the couple themselves, scrumptious wedding cakes, carriages fit for a Queen and hearts and flowers. Each carries a delightful message of congratulations for Prince William and Catherine. After the big day the cards will be sent to Buckingham Palace as a gift for the newly-weds.
Local celebrations continued with the tourism team's link with businesses to produce a celebratory window display, featuring a stunning wedding gown, shoes and tiara, a table arrangement, wedding jewellery, hats and fascinators along with Royal Wedding merchandise on sale at the centre, all festooned by the Union Jack flags.
The Centre is also continuing to host the work of local artists and craftspeople who supply "The Colchester Collection", a range of gifts, souvenirs and treats made by companies, artists and craftspeople in the Colchester area, or inspired by the Colchester area; many exclusive to the VisitColchester Information Centre. The Collection is a celebration of local skills and talents which can be shared with local people and visitors alike. The current range includes gorgeous ceramic pastel coloured vases and artworks, lovely local watercolours and cards and unique glass jewellery, which make great wedding gift ideas for celebrations closer to home!
Colchester Zoo is joining in with the royal wedding celebrations by naming their young Pied tamarins William and Kate in honour of the royal couple!
