Tourism structures undergoing change

09/11/2011

As you may be aware The Government is encouraging localism rather than regionalism. This is having a major impact on regional tourism bodies around the country, many of which are ceasing to operate.

Here is a recent statement from East England Tourism, which you may need to be aware of:

"Tourism structures at a national, regional and local level are in period of significant change with the abolition of Regional Development Agencies and funding cuts for all other agencies that have a role in growing the visitor economy. With the Tourism Minister launching a new strategy later this year, VisitEngland yet to finalise its marketing strategy for England and the formation of Local Enterprise Partnerships still months away, the future role for the delivery of tourism support is still unclear.

As this period of uncertainty is unlikely to end in the immediate future, the Board of East of England Tourism has decided that the organisation needs to carry out an initial scaling down of its operation as an interim measure until the future picture of tourism delivery is better understood. As a result, some staff members' posts are being made redundant, although we will be maintaining our core service delivery and actively developing new products and services for the future. More details on this will follow in due course.
