Monopoly Madness! Make Colchester Mayfair!
Colchester's tourism team are urging people to make Colchester Mayfair as Colchester joins the race to be one of 22 most popular locations in the UK to be immortalised in a new version of the world famous board game, Monopoly.For over 70 years the official Monopoly board has represented the most valuable locations in London but for the first time ever, makers Parker will decide on the 22 locations not by the cost of the property or its notoriety but on the passion of its people.
The new version of this family favourite, called 'Monopoly Here & Now UK' is being developed by game makers Parker, via a competition on the official Monopoly website: www.monopoly.co.uk
The site contained Parkers' list of key destinations around the Country and invited people to vote for their favourite place. Although Colchester is not on Parker's list, Colcestrians voted in the 'Wildcard' section and Colchester features on the board.
People could vote once a day on the site after completing a simple online form. Votes ended on May 25th.
Colchester has ambitions to develop as an even more prestigious regional centre. Around £3bn is currently being invested in four regeneration areas around the town which will bring more jobs, more opportunities for local businesses and will create a place where people want to be.
Joanna Austin from Parker commented: "It's very exciting to see which location will have the most passionate population. The people of the UK are massively patriotic and will certainly get behind their cities, towns and villages. It will be interesting to see how the big cities fare against the smaller villages."
The new 'Monopoly Here & Now UK' edition will be released in October ENDS 30 April 2007
