Colchester & Ipswich Museums Merge
In April, in possibly the first venture of its kind in the UK, Colchester and Ipswich museum services merged to provide a new combined service - 'Colchester and Ipswich Museum Service'.The new service now boasts 6 fantastic museums; Colchester Castle, Hollytrees, Natural History Museum, Tymperleys Clock Museum, Ipswich Museum and Christchurch Mansion.
The merger of the two services sees a wealth of knowledge and history being shared across the two counties. With strong collections of natural history, Roman history, Saxon history and more, the new service 'will be a source of pride, inspiration and fun' for visitors.
With Britain's oldest recorded town and the oldest town with a strong Saxon heritage in the mix, Colchester and Ipswich Museum service is a very exciting venture that will help to open up our museums' services to even more residents and visitors. ENDS May 07
