About

This church in the picturesque village of Dedham, was dedicated to St Mary the Virgin in 1492 when the present building was built. it was built form the wealth accumualted by wealthy cloth merchants during the highly successful East Anglian based wool trade in the medieval period.

It isn't the first church to have been built upon this site. There has been a church in Dedham since at least 1322, when services were held in a much smaller church on the same grounds.

This impressive building may be familiar to many who have never visited it as it appears in many of the paintings of the famous landscape artist John Constable.

The Church is an important focal point of Dedham village and enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
