The unique architecture and stunning coastline of Jaywick inspires artists creating an active arts scene. The seventh Coastal Open gives local artists another chance to display their talents in art and crafts in a unique location. Jaywick Martello Tower opened in 2005 and hosts many successful art exhibitions and workshops.
Jaywick is a small unique coastal village celebrated for its golden untouched beaches. The town was developed in the 1930’s as a holiday resort for Londoners. As people have visited and fallen in love with the unique area it has become a small residential seaside town with a strong community spirit.

The mixture of unique architecture and stunning coastline has inspired local and international artists creating an active arts scene. The Coastal Open is a celebration of local artists, giving a chance to display their talent in arts and crafts. It gives an opportunity to demonstrate what inspires them about their community, environment and heritage through their artwork. This is the seventh year of the Coastal Open. The previous years were hailed a success with artworks ranging from stunning prints on paper created from Jaywick Seaweed, intricate wood carvings, through to creative textiles, driftwood sculptures and paintings.

A visitor to the Coastal Open 2010 stated:-
“What an amazing venue for an excellent exhibition. What remarkable talent. Jaywick is an inspiring place, so much more to it and the people than most people realise. I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting here.” 12th August 2010.

Jaywick Martello Tower is an innovative arts and heritage venue, originally built in 1809 as one of 103 Napoleonic fortifications. The tower has had a varied and interesting history culminating into the modern arts venue it is today. Since opening to the public in 2005 it has hosted many local and international successful art exhibitions and workshops. The community is an important aspect of Jaywick Martello Tower. It gives a platform for the community to creatively express their views.
