Castle Park and Gardens

A town centre oasis of horticultural splendor, including a modern children's play area, children's boating lake, cricket ground, traditional cafe, riverside walks, the Hollytrees Museum and the cafe itself. Dogs welcome in the Lower Castle Park, but not permitted in the Upper Castle Park.

The park was open in 1892 and is as popular now as when it first opened. The park itself is designated Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.

Events run throughout the year in Castle Park including the long running and popular Kings Coel's Kittens Fireworks display and the Colchester Food & Drink Festival. Click here to view events taking place in Castle Park.

Being located in the town centre Castle Park is conveniently located for locals and visitors to enjoy on a daily basis. Take a stroll round the park and see the impressive views of Colchester Castle, Hollytrees Museum and look over from the walkway and you can see High Woods Country Park, a truly un-spoilt view of Colchester.

Regular winner of the prestigeous Green Flag Award and voted Britain's Best Park in 2009. Come and see the fantastic work of the park rangers & gardeners whatever the season.

Castle Park is a great location for everyone on a hot summer's day to relax and enjoy the tranquility and to absorb the grandeur of the surroundings. Why not head down with a frisbee or football then grab a refreshing drink from the Café in the Park. In the winter snow grab your sled and head to Castle Park to join in the winter warming fun.

Whether you wish to meet friends, have a walk, listen to music in the Band Stand or want to see a Roman Wall then Castle Park has it all for you.
